The power steering pump is at the heart of the system, providing hydraulic fluid at the necessary pressure for the system to operate correctly. Needless to say, if the pump isn't working at its optimum efficiency, then the whole system (and therefore the vehicle safety) will be compromised.

There are many different pumps on the market, with manufacturers changing the specification from time to time- this means that 2 seemingly identical pumps may be significantly different on the inside, causing possible inconvenience to the end user through system incompatibility.
